The Department of Chemistry of

In recognition of the outstanding teaching and research achievements of our faculty who have earned numerous awards and honors, the University is going to organize the Second Faculty Recognition Ceremony to acknowledge their achievements in the 2017/18 academic year.  In our department, five faculty members are included in the List of Honorees: Dr. Jason K.K. CHAN, Prof. Simon Wan CHAN, Prof. Ding PAN, Prof. Benzhong TANG and Prof. Ching W. TANG (in alphabetical order).  The Ceremony will take place on 12 December 2018.

Prof. Jianzhen Yu is selected as one of the winners of the School of Science Service Awards 2018. The award will be presented at the School Board Meeting to be held on 11 Dec 2018.

Dr. Jason K.K. CHAN is awarded the 2018 UGC Teaching Award under the category of Early Career Faculty Members.  The Presentation Ceremony took place on 6 Sepember 2018.  For details, please visit the following weblinks:

Prof. Simon Wan CHAN is selected to receive the 2018 Chemical Research in Toxicology (CRT) Young Investigator Award by the American Chemical Society (ACS) Division of Chemical Toxicology (TOXI). The lectureship will be presented in August 2018 at the Fall ACS National meeting in Boston, USA.

Prof. Jianwei SUN's research team has discovered a new synthetic route to produce chiral molecules which may bring safer and more affordable medicine.

Prof. Benzhong Tang received the State Natural Science Award (First Class) 2017 for Outstanding Achievements in the research of Aggregation-induced Emission (AIE).  The award was presented in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on 8 January, 2018.

 

Prof. Benzhong Tang and Dr. Jacky Lam were identified as Highly Cited Researcher in 2017 by Thomson Reuters

 

Prof. Xuhui Huang and Prof. Henry Yan have been elected as Members of the Young Academy of Sciences of Hong Kong (ASHK) in 2017.

 

Student Achievements

 

Three of our RPg students (see below) are awarded the Research Excellence Award 2017/2018 by School of Science, HKUST for their outstanding achievements in research. The awards will be presented on 30 May 2018.
